A new newsletter was released on Saturday (20/Jun/2009) and if you didn’t get a paper copy you can view it here: http://www.glenviewkarate.com/media/GlenViewKarate-22-Jun22-2009.pdf. The June 2009 newsletter mentions Alex’s success in the National Championships, thanks Aragane Sensei for currently taking classes and asks “what’s up with Dave’s broken ankle?”.
Also it was announced that the next grading is taking place on Saturday the 4th of July. This is VERY near so if you don’t know your Kata then PRACTISE - and videos of all the junior Kata are viewable on the Katas [videos] page too).
Aragane Sensei is back from Japan and instructing again from today so its well worth attending classes.
This does open up the possibility of a pre-August summer grading and as always any dates will be posted here if/when known (or even rumoured…).
There will be no class on Easter Saturday (11th April 2009). There WILL be classes on the Tuesday and Thursday before and after Easter weekend - i.e only one class cancelled.
Grading for all belts above red will be taking place on Saturday the 21st of February 2009 at 11AM (with registration no later than 10:30AM).
The February newsletter is released also (if you didn’t get a paper copy you can view it here: http://www.glenviewkarate.com/media/gvk-feb-09.pdf). An important item detailed in the newsletter is a change to Tuesdays class time whereby the class will end at 7PM rather than 7:15PM (CLASS TIMES).
Its rumored that grading may be on February the 14th or on the following week on the 21st. It’s only a rumor with no confirmed date yet.
On another note I received an email from Dr Bryan Mac Donald of DCU Karate today. He passed on a leaflet for a training day in Dublin with Kawaosoe Sensei (8th Dan). This is an Irish Shotokan Institute event. If you are interested the leaflet is available to download here: http://www.glenviewkarate.com/media/KawasoeDublin09.pdf
2009 training has resumed as of Tuesday the 13th of January. Aragane Sensei is back in Ireland and took the class. Note that class times have changed slightly (CLASS TIMES).
Grading dates will be posted here when known.
Announced in December was a change to the 2009 class times. It’s good news: The saturday classes are extended to 2 hours (11:00 - 13:00) - all class times are on the CLASS TIMES page. Classes begin again on Tuesday the 13th of January 2009. See you then.
Happy Christmas.
Saturday’s grading (6th December 2008) was great with all white belts grading and some double-grading. There was also the annual competition and many of the younger entrants won medals.
Note that the final pre-Christmas classes are Tuesday the 9th of December 2008 for juniors and Thursday the 11th for seniors.
After Christmas classes will begin again on Tuesday the 13th of January 2009.
Grading for yellow belts (7th Kyu) and above will also take place in Janurary.
The November 2008 newsletter was out two weeks ago. If you didn’t pick up a copy you can view it here: http://www.glenviewkarate.com/media/glenviewkarate-nov-newsletter.pdf. This newsletter includes grading tips, training times and fees, competition day and Japanese words.
